Mulch

Just spread some coco hull mulch on the flower and veggies garden this past weekend. Why mulch, here are a few reason...

  • it smells nice
  • keeps soil cool in the summer
  • prevents moisture lose by retaining water
  • provide organic matter to soil
  • makes bed look nice
Do you use mulch? If so, what kind...straw, leaves, hay, grass, wood chips???

I agree, cocoa beans make for great mulch. It smells like chocolate after it rains!

I used cocoa mulch a few years ago and have regretted it ever since. It got rotten and moldy and the smell was terrible. It's light so it blows all over and it gets tracked into the house. It's also really hard to sweep up (because it's so light). We never got the chocolate smell--just musty gym sock smell!

That's too bad...We've had great luck with cocoa bean mulch in both the flowerbed and veggie garden.
